Grieving the Loss of our Companion Animals

Anyone who has ever shared their life with a pet has an intimate undersanding of how enriching the experience is. The depth of love and friendship shared with animal companions can only be truly understood by others who have loved a pet.  When a pet's life comes to an end, people grieve for it with an intensity that acknowledges the loss of a family member.

Those grieving the loss of a pet this year were invited to participate in a special remembrance of deceased animal companions on September 24th at 10:30 a.m.  The remembrance was held alongside the blessing of live animals, and took place on the property behind St. Gianna's Parish Centre.  Those grieving the loss of a pet were invited to bring a framed photo of their companion and place it before the statue of St. Francis.  Participants were reminded of the responsibility all have in following the example of St. Francis as stewards of Creation. The liturgy was followed by a light reception.
