Release on the Wings of Butterflies!

One hundred people gathered the afternoon of Ascension Sunday on June 5th to participate in a symbolic release of butterflies offered through Living Waters Columbarium Ministry. People gathered on the property behind St. Gianna’s Parish Centre for an outdoor liturgical celebration that included a release of 90 painted lady butterflies to celebrate the resurrection of deceased loved ones.

Participants were invited to ’let go’ of the individuals and situations in their lives which they have held too tightly, for it is only in relinquishing that hold and trusting in God that acceptance, peace and freedom can truly be discovered. Following a blessing given by Fr Darrin Gurr, the participants released their butterflies. There was great joy as all watched the butterflies emerge from their boxes and adapt to their newly found freedom. Some paused for a moment, perching on a hand or shoulder, others immediately took flight in the warm air and clear blue sky. There was a feeling of profound joy in witnessing ‘freedom’ on the radiant wings of butterflies.
